Finland’s Niklas Anttila has once again claimed the title at The Open at Austin, defending his 2024 victory with another stellar performance at the 2025 edition of the event. As the third stop in the Disc Golf Pro Tour’s 10th season and a DGPT+ event, this year’s tournament featured a $100,810 purse and took place across two challenging courses: Sprinkle Valley and the Harvey Penick Disc Golf Course.

Anttila, rated 1040, finished tied at the top with Kyle Klein at -34 but secured the win on a tiebreaker thanks to a scorching final round of 51 strokes — the best round of the day. With consistent play across all four days (59, 55, 59, 51), Anttila walked away with the $11,650 winner’s check and reaffirmed his status as one of Europe’s top disc golf talents.

A Wave of European Talent

Anttila wasn’t the only European making headlines in Austin. His Finnish compatriot Väinö Mäkelä tied for 14th at -20, posting a solid finish with rounds of 56, 61, 60, and 61. Meanwhile, Jesse Nieminen finished 42nd at -9, and Linus Carlsson (Sweden) placed 46th at -7.

Further down the leaderboard, Finland's Rasmus Saukkoriipi took 62nd at -2, while Estonia’s Albert Tamm landed in 65th at -1. Randy Dueck (competing under Belize) finished tied at 72nd with +1, and Czech players Jakub Semerád and Jakub Knápek placed 79th (+4) and 94th (+9), respectively. Joona Heinänen of Finland finished 86th with a +6 total.

FPO Division: Strong Performances from Europe

In the FPO field, Estonian rising star Kristin Lätt delivered a stellar showing, finishing 2nd with an even-par total (260), just one stroke behind winner Holyn Handley. Lätt’s final round 62 helped her surge up the leaderboard and secure a $4,500 payday.

Finland’s Silva Saarinen took 4th place with +6 (266), while Henna Blomroos followed closely behind in 6th at +8 (268). Finnish teammate Eveliina Salonen shared 9th place at +12 (272) with a cluster of top American competitors.

Other European women in the field included Latvia’s Sintija Klezberga (36th), Norway’s Anniken Kristiansen Steen (42nd), and Estonians Kaire Tekku (48th) and Maria Liivamägi (51st). Finland’s Heidi Laine rounded out the group in 53rd.
