The 2025 PDGA Professional Disc Golf World Championships is set to make history, as the tournament will be hosted for the first time outside of North America — in Nokia and Tampere, Finland — and will feature players from a record-breaking 44 countries.

Set to take place from July 26 to August 3 in Nokia and Tampere, Finland, the tournament has already confirmed the participation of athletes from 44 countries, making it the most internationally diverse PDGA event to date. The previous record hovered in the mid-20s.
The unprecedented turnout is the result of a targeted initiative led by Matěj Verl, PDGA Europe Tour Manager, in collaboration with Brian Hoeniger and national disc golf associations. According to Verl, the European setting offered a rare chance to try a new approach to international representation. “Since the event is being hosted outside of North America for the first time, we saw a unique opportunity to invite the top MPO and FPO player from every country,” he explained, adding that the selection was made in cooperation with national governing bodies and based on clear qualification criteria.
Verl described the process as a step toward a more inclusive and globally representative future for the sport. He noted that after Tier 1 registration alone, “we already have players from 44 countries,” a number that, in his words, “turned out to be quite historical.” He expressed hope that this model not only becomes a tradition but might also be expanded in the coming years.
The 2025 Pro Worlds will be contested on two iconic Finnish courses — The Beast in Nokia, well known from the European Open, and the Tampere Disc Golf Center. With world-class layouts and strong local infrastructure, Finland promises to deliver a championship worthy of its historic first.
