The 2025 Ale Open presented by Discraft concluded in Nol, Sweden, with Finland claiming both division victories. Niklas Anttila and Silva Saarinen emerged as champions in the MPO and FPO fields, delivering strong final rounds under pressure to secure the win.
Anttila finished at 25-under par after three rounds, edging out American contender Richard Wysocki by a single stroke. A 10-under final round solidified the victory for the Finn, who earned $8,500 in prize money. The win marks another major step in Anttila’s already impressive 2025 season.
In the FPO division, Silva Saarinen held off Estonia’s Kristin Lätt in a close battle. Saarinen carded a 3-under round on Sunday to finish at 11-under overall, one shot clear of Lätt, who closed strong but fell just short. Saarinen took home $4,000 for her performance, while Lätt collected $2,300.
The final round in the MPO division featured several standout performances. Lauri Lehtinen shot the hot round of the day with a 12-under 51, tying for third place alongside Väinö Mäkelä, Peter Lunde, Daniel Davidsson, and Nestori Tuhkanen at 20-under. Despite the strong push from the chasers, Anttila maintained composure and birdied eight of the first eleven holes to stay ahead.
In FPO, the lead card remained tightly contested throughout. Lätt tied Saarinen midway through the round, but back-to-back birdies on holes 15 and 16 allowed Saarinen to retake control. England’s Rachel Turton finished third at 1-under, followed by Iida Lehtomäki of Finland and Norway’s Anniken Kristiansen Steen, who both shared fourth place at even par.
The total professional purse at the Ale Open was $64,146. Alongside the winners, notable payouts included $4,500 to Richard Wysocki in second place and $2,280 each for the six MPO players tied in third. On the FPO side, Rachel Turton received $1,600 for her third-place finish.
The Ale Open featured a predominantly European field across both divisions. In the MPO division, 96.4% of the 110 players represented European countries, while only 4 athletes came from outside the continent. The FPO division was entirely composed of European competitors, with all 35 participants hailing from Europe.
Estonia’s Kristin Lätt, who finished second in FPO, shared her appreciation on social media: “Thank you to all the people who welcomed disc golfers in Ale and made sure the event was running smoothly. I was happy to be a part of it and hoping to visit you again in the upcoming years.”
